Baby photographer explains child development for 7-9 month olds

Child development 7-9 months

7 months old, baby photos

Over the years I have learnt a lot about child development. From studying it but also learning through the vast number of children I have worked with in day care centers and being a baby photographer. So I just want to start this off with every child is different, every child develops at different speeds and in different ways. Let’s face it, if we were all the same, this world we live in would be a boring place, right? All information in this blog is from educational books, classes I have attended and supplies I have learnt over the years but also the opinion of myself, please consider this when reading through my article.

where did my sweet baby go?

Are you wondering where did that sweet tiny baby go right? Time goes so incredibly fast and now you and your baby are starting to feel and act like separate people. They may be starting to sit up, move by rolling, reach out, and act on the world. Your baby may worry that you might not come back when you go away and lets you know it. They may respond to you giving them lots of things to look at, touch, play with and safely put in their mouth. This is why it’s so important to capture those special moments with a baby photographer to have memories that will last a lifetime!

The milestones:

Some motor milestones you may see start developing could be, sitting without support, they may start to have more control while rolling and sitting, turns head to visually track objects while sitting, move from tummy or back to sitting, and the one parents must watch out for is at this age, your baby may start to move with alternate leg and arm movement like creeping or crawling. As stated before every baby develops at different stages and their ‘crawling’ may be of a different style of movement then what you thought they may do, but go with it, and watch in amazement as your sweet babe learns how to move those arms and legs to crawl.

Some sensory milestones could be, whilst your reading a bedtime story they may be able to turn several pages of a chunky book, and they may investigate shapes, sizes and textures of their toys and surroundings, they may observe their environment from a variety of positions such as, while laying on their back or tummy, sitting, crawling, and standing with assistance. Feeding time becomes a little more enjoyable for everyone around, or maybe not so enjoyable where the cleaning is concerned. However your baby may begin to eat thicker puree and mashed table foods and have a strong reaction to new smells and tastes and they will most likely stay full for longer. When it comes to the communication milestones you sweet babe may recognize the sound of a name, and may imitates sounds they hear around, and they start to learn some simple gestures such as shaking their head or ‘no’.

Safety:

Some safety notes to ensure you are aware of, a moving baby who puts everything into their mouth needs to be watched all the time because they can quickly swallow small objects or creep into unsafe places. Babies are not able to understand about danger. Lock away unsafe objects or put them high out of reach.

It’s important to note that these milestones are from 7-9 months of age, and every baby is different, and some develop at different speeds then others, however if you have any concerns over your baby’s development it is best to contact your doctor.
