Newborn sessions:

  • What should I expect for my newborn session?

Before our session takes place, we will arrange for a phone consultation to discuss colors/themes that you like. From there I will plan the different set ups we will use. When I first arrive at your home, I will begin by setting up. During this time, you can look through my never-ending supply of outfits to choose which you would like to use. You will need to prepare a space for me to work in, it does not need to be a huge space. As I will bring my professional lighting with me there is no need to worry about windows being close by. I will also have a space heater with me, to ensure baby is warm and comfortable. If we’re not sweating, it’s probably not warm enough for baby! Parent’s please make sure to wear comfortable loose clothing.

  • Where will the session take place?

All my newborn sessions are held in the comfort of your own home.

  • Why is it so important to do newborn photos within the first week or two?

All newborns have a certain ‘look’ to them. Usually within a week or two, that newborn-like quality starts to disappear. The point of newborn photos is to capture that newborn look. So, I always recommend photographing as early as possible.

  • How long will the session last?

How long does the session take? Sessions usually take between 3-4 hours. This give time for me to set up my portable studio and have a break for feeding baby, changing diaper and settling them.

  • What happens if my baby urinates or has bowel movements?

This is completely normal and expected. Please take this time to sit back and relax. All my props are thoroughly washed and cleaned before any session.

  • What happens if my baby starts crying or gets fussy?

It’s completely NORMAL for your baby to wake up during the photo session and sometimes get a little fussy. We continue to work through their fuss with warmth, a little rocking and a bit of patience. Your baby will likely require a feeding at some point during the session and this usually solves the more dramatic fussiness issues. At that point we will all take a break and you will be able to give your baby a full feeding or if you bottle feed, I am is happy to feed your baby.

Family sessions:

  • What should I wear for my family session?

To make things easier, start by planning one person’s outfit first and then work around that person. It’s wise to not match, but please coordinate. Wearing clothes that are the same level of dressiness is as matchy as it needs to be. Consider colors, although I loved hiding in black as much as the next guy, it tends to be a tough color for photographs. Nothing is worse than being miserably uncomfortable in a perfect outfit. If you’re planning an outdoor session in November, think about coats, gloves, and hats. In the summer, dress in layers that you can easily take off if you get too hot.

  • Where will the session take place?

The options are endless! My most typical locations for shoots will either be in the comfort of your home or at an outdoor location, or if you’re stuck for ideas, I have lists of great places to go!

  • What if my child/children do not cooperate?

I have worked with children for many years and I have a few tricks up my sleeve to get them comfortable with me and laughing and smiling. During all my sessions, I never put too much pressure on the child. I like to take a laid-back approach and let them play and be silly. It’s also important to remember that they have a nice full belly and have had a good night’s sleep before the session takes place.

  • What should I expect from my family session?

My approach for all my sessions is a relaxed and fun environment. We will start with the usual posed pictures. Then I will ask you to play/tickle and interact with your children to capture those natural moments.  I want you to look back on the pictures and remember what your child was like during this time in their life. It’s hard to see this with a forced fake smile!

Maternity sessions:

  • When should I schedule my maternity session for?

I think some of the best maternity photos are taken between the seventh- and eight-month mark. This is when you’re really showing but isn’t so close to your due date that you’re uncomfortable.

  • What should I wear for my maternity session?

General questions:

  • How long does the session take?

For maternity and family offer both full sessions and mini session, although both include different prints and amounts of digitals, a mini session is a short 20-minute session while a full session will be closer to an hour. Newborn sessions typically last between 3-4 hours.

  • Do I need to provide anything?

Unless there is something you would like to use then you will not need to bring anything other than yourselves. If you have something you want to use, please let me know before our session so I can plan accordingly.

  • How long does it take to get the images and prints?

My timeline for you receiving your gallery is usually between 1-2 weeks. For print products it will usually take around one week after you have selected the image you wish to be printed. First your prints will come to me so that I can ensure everything is well with them, then I will send them out to you.

  • How will I receive my images?

Once I have hand edited your images, I will send you a link which will take you to your gallery. Once there you will need to enter your email and a password, I will provide you with to open the gallery.

  • What happens if myself, child or other family member is sick on the day of the session?

If in the unfortunate event that someone becomes sick, I do require to be notified 72 hours prior to the session date to qualify for a refund. The reschedule date will be made as soon as possible. If notification is not made within 48 hours prior, your session retainer will be forfeited.

  • Can we have outfit changes?

Yes, certainly in time permits. for full family, & maternity sessions there will be time for you to change your outfit. Newborn sessions will include between 3-4 different set ups including different outfit changes. However due to the time length in a mini session I do advise that we stick with one outfit to ensure we have time to capture all images included in your session.

As always, if you wish to gain more details on any of the sessions that I offer, newborn, maternity or family photography then please feel free to reach out to me!
